La Tête de Charlotte Corday
Charlotte Corday a été guillotinée le 17 juillet 1793. Où se trouve donc sa tête ?
Une réponse possible est fournie par une lettre de Lady Dorothy Stanley, veuve de Stanley d'Afrique (l'explorateur qui a trouvé David Livingstone en 1871).
La mère de Lady Stanley a été élevée en France. Lorsqu'elle était toute jeune, elle a pu rencontrer des hommes célèbres : Talleyrand et Lally Tollendal, parmi d'autres. L'un d'entre eux, un certain Monsieur X (nous n'indiquons pas le nom de famille afin de préserver la vie privée de ses descendants) a montré "la tête de Charlotte Corday" à la mère de Lady Stanley.
Cette dernière raconte cet épisode dans une lettre qu'elle a écrit à Théodore Lenôtre, grand historien français, le 6 juin 1923.

Charlotte Corday was guillotined on July 17, 1793. Where is her head now ?
One possible answer is given in a letter by Lady Dorothy Stanley, widow of Henry Morton Stanley, Lord Stanley of Africa (the explorer who found David Livingstone in 1871).
Lady Stanley's mother was raised and educated in France. When she was a child, she met many famous French political figures : Talleyrand and Lally Tollendal, among others. One of them, a certain Monsieur X (we've removed the family name to protect the privacy of his descendants) once showed "the head of Charlotte Corday" to Lady Stanley's mother.
Lady Stanley speaks of the episode in a letter she wrote to the great French historian, Théodore Lenôtre, on June 6, 1923.
